Privacy Policy

Effective date: 12 October 2026

1. Who we are

Brot is a kids' phrase-chat app made by Blake Penson, a dad who's a cybersecurity specialist, so online safety comes first. We're launching in Australia first, then the United States.

2. How Brot works

Kids can only send fixed phrases and stickers. There is no free text, no voice, no cameras, no photo uploads and no insults.

No voice. No cameras. No insults.

3. Parent verification

A parent verifies with a one-time code sent by SMS or email. The parent's phone number or email is used only for verification and for parent notices. We never market to it or share it.

4. What we collect about kids

We collect only a device ID and a push notification ID, plus app content: approved friends, groups and the phrase messages sent. We don't collect a child's name, location, photos, contacts, voice or free text.

5. Friends

Parents approve every friend connection. Invites happen by QR code or link.

6. How long we keep chats

Chat history is kept for 90 days or the last 500 messages per chat, whichever comes first. Parents can clear it anytime.

7. Ads and tracking

No annoying ads! Ever!

There are no third-party tracking or analytics SDKs. We don't sell or rent data.

8. Purchases

Purchases are one-time purchases made through Apple, behind a parent gate. There are no subscriptions.

Pay once, yours forever.

RevenueCat processes purchase receipts to unlock what you bought. We never see card details.

9. Where data is stored / service providers

Brot's app data is stored with Supabase, in Sydney, Australia (ap-southeast-2). Apple handles push notifications through the Apple Push Notification service and handles payments. RevenueCat processes purchase receipts. No other third parties are used.

10. Your rights (Australia & US)

Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Australian Privacy Principles) and the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), parents can review the data held about their child, ask us to correct or delete it, withdraw consent and stop further collection at any time. Deleting the child's account removes their data.

Parents can clear chats in the app anytime. We only collect what's needed for the app to work and don't condition participation on giving more.

Contact us at [CONTACT EMAIL - TO BE ADDED]. Australian users can also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au if they're unhappy with our response.

11. Security

Data is encrypted in transit, access is restricted, and we keep data minimal by design.

12. Changes

We'll update this page and the effective date when the policy changes, and notify parents of material changes.

13. Contact

For privacy questions or requests, contact us at [CONTACT EMAIL - TO BE ADDED].
